Justine Hamlin, Clarinetist and Artistic Director

Clarinet

Justine Hamlin is a San Diego-based concert clarinetist, educator, and arts advocate renowned for her versatile performances as a soloist and chamber musician. As the founding member and artistic director of the contemporary chamber ensemble Windscape, Justine is deeply dedicated to advancing classical chamber music, exploring innovative multi-disciplinary collaborations, and fostering a vibrant local arts community.

Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Justine’s musical passion has taken her across the country. She holds a Bachelors of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Masters of Music in Clarinet Performance from the New England Conservatory where she studied solo repertoire under the direction of the world-renowned soloist Richard Stoltzman. Her other influential mentors include Yehuda Gilad, Ixi Chen, Ronald Aufmann, and Luis Baez.

Justine has freelanced and performed with numerous notable ensembles and orchestras, including the Fresno Philharmonic, Santa Cruz Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Oakland Symphony, and West Bay Opera. An avid champion of modern repertoire, she frequently collaborates on new music.

What truly sets Justine apart as an instrumentalist and educator is her profound integration of movement science into her musical practice. In addition to her extensive conservatory training, Justine holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine and is a board-certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist.

Based in North County San Diego, Justine maintains an active freelance schedule and coordinates local musical initiatives. She is a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians (Local 325) and the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA).

Brandon Wenning, Flutes

Brandon Wenning is a highly versatile flutist, multi-instrumentalist, and scientist known for his unique intersection of analytical precision and deep artistic expression. Equally at home in the lab and on the stage, Brandon performs across a vast landscape of musical genres, ranging from symphonic band and chamber music to musical theater pit orchestras.

While the flute is his primary voice, Brandon's versatility extends across the woodwind family as an accomplished doubler on clarinet and saxophone. This multi-instrumental fluency makes him a highly sought-after musician for regional theater productions, commercial ensembles, and contemporary projects.

As a San Diego-based multi-instrumentalist Brandon performs with a wide range of ensembles including Windscape, Finest City Wind Orchestra, and regional theater productions. Brandon has also appeared with the San Diego Saints Choir, Stellarum Chamber Choir, and previously co-founded the New England Film Orchestra. Trained in flute performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Brandon balances his musical life with a career as a Sr. Staff Scientist at Illumina, holding advanced degrees in polymer chemistry from Cornell University.

Ariana Warren, Clarinets

Dr. Ariana Warren is a dynamic woodwinds artist, educator, and pioneer in contemporary performance based in San Diego, California. Renowned for her exceptional versatility and virtuosity across the woodwind family, Ariana is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose mastery spans classical, jazz, commercial theater, and electronic experimental music.

Ariana maintains a diverse and active performing career across Southern California. Since 2014, she has served as an orchestral staple with the San Diego City Ballet Orchestra, where she handles demanding woodwind textures on clarinet and bass clarinet. She is also a frequent call for regional commercial theater, lending her multi-instrumental talents to major local productions with San Diego Musical Theater, OB Theater, and Peter Pan Jr. Theater.

A fierce champion of contemporary and avant-garde music, Ariana thrives in experimental and boundary-pushing settings. She is an affiliated artist with San Diego New Music and a core member of multiple creative collectives, including Omniharmonium a cinematic soundscape project, A Hundred Ghosts an electronic improvisation collective and The Devil May Care Duo a clarinet and percussion duo.

As a highly respected educator, Dr. Warren serves on the music faculty at Cuyamaca College and maintains a thriving global private woodwind studio, teaching in person and online. Her pedagogy balances a rigorous technical foundation with a philosophical emphasis on curiosity and adaptability, empowering her students to build multifaceted, sustainable musical careers.

Dr. Warren holds some of the highest academic honors in music performance. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance and her Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University, studying under Edward Palanker. She subsequently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Contemporary Music Performance at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), a premier hub for experimental music.

Jonathan Hayward, Bassoon

Jonathan Hayward, Bassoon

Jonathan Hayward is an accomplished bassoonist and orchestral musician recognized for his warm tone, technical precision, and compelling interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire. A versatile performer, Jonathan is equally at home in the symphonic orchestra hall as he is in intimate chamber music settings, collaborating frequently with leading wind ensembles and modern music initiatives.

Jonathan maintains an active performing schedule, collaborating with regional orchestras and chamber ensembles. An advocate for the expansion of the wind repertoire, he is a core member of Windscape and the Finest City Wind Orchestra, where his nuanced playing brings vital depth to the ensemble's low-reed voice.

Jonathan’s performance history spans a broad range of musical eras. He is deeply committed to performing the foundational masterworks of the bassoon literature from Baroque to championing the music of living composers.

Jonathan Hayward earned a BM degree in bassoon performance from New England Conservatory, an AS in Electronic Engineering, a MA degree in Management, and a teaching credential. Jonathan was a founding member of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and performed as a freelance musician in San Diego and Boston. Jonathan has had a career in education for over thirty years and is presently a tenured math teacher at Orange Glen High School in Escondido.

Daniel Kamon, Saxophones

Saxophone

Daniel Kamon is a born-and-raised San Diegan, saxophonist, and educator whose sound reflects over a decade of performance across classical, contemporary, and jazz traditions. Known for his versatility and expressive range, he moves fluidly between genres and styles. Daniel’s work continues to be driven by improvisational curiosity and a commitment to expanding the saxophone’s expressive possibilities.

Daniel currently performs with the Windscape Reed Quintet and the San Diego Winds, continuing a performance career that has included the SDSMI Saxophone Quartet, Coulteri Saxophone Quartet, Coastal Cities Jazz Band, and numerous chamber groups throughout Southern California and the East Coast.

A dedicated educator, Daniel serves as a saxophone coach and instructor across San Diego County, His teaching philosophy blends classical technique, jazz fluency, and personal artistic development, empowering students to grow as both musicians and creative thinkers. Daniel holds a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where he studied under Gary Louie, and a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from San Diego State University under Dr. Todd Rewoldt.
